Turners Falls rolls past Frontier Regional, 31-8
The Frontier Regional defense held Turners Falls in the first half, but the Indians’ offense took off in the second en route to a 31-8 win in Turners Falls Friday.
Turners led 7-0 when Justin Blake answered the Indians’ first touchdown with an 86-yard kickoff return for a score three minutes into the game. A Jack Hebert 2-point conversion run gave the Red Hawks an 8-7 lead.
The lead stood for most of the first half as Hebert and Blake anchored a strong Frontier running game, while the defense limited Turners’ offense.
The Red Hawks (1-2, 1-2 Intercounty) appeared to extend the lead in the second quarter when Hebert took it in from 4 yards out, but the run was called back on a holding penalty. Two plays later, Frontier turned the ball back over to Turners (3-0, 3-0), which eventually broke through before halftime.
A 79-yard, eight-play drive in less than a minute ended with a Malcolm Smith (8-for-14, 194 yards, three TDs, one interception) to Melvin Moreno 9-yard TD pass in the right corner of the end zone as time expired. A 2-point conversion run gave Turners a 15-8 halftime lead.
Two second-half touchdowns and two 2-point conversions put the game away for the Indians.
