Northampton native Karen Bierwert wins two national titles at Masters Swimming Championship
Northampton native Karen Bierwert earned two first-place finishes last month at the United States Masters Swimming Short Course Yard National Championship in Indianapolis.
Bierwert placed first in the 60-64 age group in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 22 minutes, 2.32 seconds.
Bierwert then joined her New England Masters teammates Beth Estel, Katherine Branch and Tracy Grilli to win the 55-and-over 200-yard free relay in 1:56.55.
Bierwert earned four third-place finishes in her age group. She finished the 500 free in 6:29.54, the 200 backstroke in 2:46.21, the 200 breaststroke in 3:01.32 and the 200 butterfly in 3:08.34.
She also placed fourth (6:03.36) in the 400 individual medley.
Bierwert teamed with Estel, Barbara Hummel and Grilli to place second (2:11.77) in the 200 medley relay.
New England Swim Club placed sixth in the Regional Club division.
