Friday’s high school softball: Cassie Long’s homer lifts Amherst past Holyoke
Cassie Long smacked her fourth home run of the season as the Amherst Regional softball team defeated Holyoke 6-2 on the road Friday.
Long went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs for the Hurricanes (2-6).
Long and Sarah Grace Spurgin (two hits, double) each scored two runs for Amherst, while Justin Bohl went 2-for-3 with a run.
Mathena Morrissey gave up seven hits and fanned three in the complete game.
She received defensive help from center fielder Nadia Squitiero and Elaine Manicke, who both threw out a runner at the plate.
Granby 16, Ware 0(5) — Tessa Cote was a fourth-inning walk shy of a five-inning perfect game, but secured the no-hitter on the road.
Cote walked one — on a full count — and struck out four in the victory.
Brooke Labrie went 2-for-2 with four RBIs as the Rams (7-1) scored 12 runs in the first inning. Noelle Menard also went 2-for-2 and had three RBIs and three runs scored.
Easthampton 12, Sabis 0 (5) — Caelin Mottor (four innings, one hit allowed) and Ashley Reardon (one inning, one hit) combined on a two-hit shutout for the Eagles (5-3) at home.
Kelly Avard (2-for-2, RBI) and Kayla McFarland (2-for-3) both scored three runs for Easthampton. Haley McFarland had a two-run single, Abby Edgin an RBI hit and Reardon added a hit and scored twice.
West Springfield 3, South Hadley 2 — Merry Kocot’s two-run single tied the game in the bottom of the sixth, but the Tigers (2-5) gave up the game winner in the seventh in the home loss.
Tess Gauthier had three hits and scored a run for South Hadley. She allowed five hits and struck out six in the complete-game loss.
Lexi Gawron had a hit and scored once.
Holyoke Catholic 16, McCann 1 — Megan Logan struck out 11, walked four, scattered three hits and added two hits (double), two runs and three RBIs as the Gaels (4-5) won on the road.
Anna DeSimone (two RBIs, double) and Krista Jasak (home run) each went 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
Julie Carroll (three runs, two RBIs, triple) and Andrea Boraski (two runs, double) each went 2-for-3.
Frontier Regional 22, Mahar 1 (5) — Cassidy Stankowski and McKayla Poissant each had four hits and five RBIs as the Red Hawks (6-2, 6-2 Franklin) scored 13 runs in the first inning and cruised in Orange.
Ally Hamelin added two hits and four RBIs in the win. The sophomore also pitched three innings in relief of starter Krystel Enko (two innings, five strikeouts) and struck out two to earn the win.
Amanda Robinson (two RBIs), Caitlyn Sullivan (one RBI), Cassidy Ciesluk (one RBI), Haley Dacyczyn (two RBIs) and Enko (one RBI) each had two hits in the win.
