Monday colleges: Amherst College baseball hammers UMass-Dartmouth

The Amherst College baseball team pounded out 18 hits en route to a 7-3 win over UMass-Dartmouth at the RussMatt Invitational in Lakeland, Fla., Monday.

Eric West, Nolan Stewart (RBI), Mike Odenwaelder (run), Conner Gunn and Dan Pillitteri (RBI) each had three hits to pace Amherst (3-1).

Charles Nutter earned his first career win. The sophomore struck out five and walked over six-plus innings.

Eric Hotin hurled two shutout inning in relief and Cam Windham worked a scoreless ninth.

Softball

SUNY Geneseo 10, Amherst College 8 — Donna Leet was 2-for-4 and Brianna Cook had three RBIs as the Lord Jeffs dropped the first of two games Monday at the NTC Games in Clermont, Fla.

Amherst College 6, Hope 5 — Carolyn Miller went 3-for-4, while Leet was 2-for-4 as the Lord Jeffs (2-2) won their second game on Monday at the NTC Games in Clermont, Fla.

UMass-Dartmouth 5, Smith College 3 — Caroline Kushner and Tori Brown each had two hits but the Pioneers fell at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.

Hamilton 6, Smith College 2 — Brown and Jennifer Hsieh each had two hits but the Pioneers fell at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.

Women’s lacrosse

Mount Holyoke 15, UMass-Dartmouth 3 — Kirsten Kilburn, Naomi Miller and Brianne Phelan each had three goals as the Lyons (4-1) cruised in Clermont, Fla.

Katherine Kayser-Hirsh of Amherst had one goal in the win.

Catherine Ryan had a goal and two assists in the win.

Liz Malenfant (two saves) and Aune Mitchell (two saves) split time in goal for Mount Holyoke.
