Friday’s colleges: UMass softball rained out
The University of Massachusetts softball team opened the season with a pair of rainouts Friday in the FAU Kick-Off Classic in Boca Raton, Fla.
The Minutewomen led LIU Brooklyn 9-5 entering the bottom of the fifth when the game was called due to rain. Friday night’s game against Toledo was also cancelled.
UMass plays Maryland at 10 a.m. and Florida Atlantic at 5 p.m. Saturday. The Minutewomen finish with Michigan at 9 a.m. Sunday.
Men’s hockey
Williams 4, Amherst 2 — Brian Safstrom and Aaron Deutsch each scored but the Lord Jeffs (14-6-3, 10-5-2 NESCAC) fell at home.
