The Hampshire Regional, Belchertown and Easthampton girls basketball teams all put forth strong efforts on both ends of the floor to improve to 2-0 with easy victories Tuesday night.

Hampshire Regional 73, Ware 39 — Sarah Kober led the Raiders (2-0) with 22 points and 14 rebounds in the home victory.

Lauren Aldrich scored 12 points for Hampshire, while Chelsea Moussette added 10 with nine assists.

Belchertown 52, Monson 37 — Téa Spellacy scored a game-high 21 points for the Orioles (2-0).

Marissa Kopacz had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Jill Cavanaugh (seven points) also had 11 boards.

Jillian Lund and Sarah Woodcock played exceptional perimeter defense as Monson didn’t have a single 3-pointer in the game.

Easthampton 60, Mohawk Regional 25 — Elizabeth Whitney scored 21 points and pulled down 20 rebounds as the Eagles (2-0) were victorious in Buckland.

Kristen Windoloski had 15 points on five 3-pointers for Easthampton, which raced out to a 21-3 advantage after one quarter.

Hopkins Academy 53, Turners Falls 35 — McKenzie Sullivan had 13 points and nine rebounds as the Golden Hawks raced out to a 25-3 led and cruised past the Indians at home.

Olivia Mathieu added 10 points and 10 rebounds while Kate Sullivan also scored 10 for Hopkins (1-1, 1-0 Franklin County).

Granby 50, Palmer 36 — Five different players scored at least six points for the Rams (1-0) in their season-opening win on the road.

Rebecca Sapoukey had team highs of 14 points and nine rebounds. Meg Sullivan scored nine points, Kate Sullivan had eight, while Kiley Baran and Casey Imelio each added six.

Brie Mercier had nine rebounds.

Pioneer Regional 33, Smith Academy 29 — Cassidy Snyder had 13 points, 16 rebounds and seven steals, and Kate Yagodzinski added 12 points but the Falcons (1-1, 0-1 Franklin) fell at home.

Holyoke Catholic 33, McCann 29 — Lindsey Robins and Julia Hiney each made key baskets midway through the fourth to give the Gaels the lead, then Kyra Robins made two free throws in a one-and-one situation with a 31-29 lead to seal the win at Chicopee Academy.

Kyra Robins finished with nine points, six rebounds and four steals. Hiney added eight points and five rebounds for Catholic (1-1, 1-0 Bi-County West).

Mahar Regional 55, Frontier Regional 47 — Olivia Riordan and Amanda Calvo had matching lines of 12 points and 10 rebounds, but the Red Hawks (0-1) dropped their season opener in Orange.

Sydney Judge scored a team-high 13 points for Frontier, while Jordan Rowe added eight.

Holyoke 52, Northampton 41 — After falling behind 20-3 early in the second quarter, the Blue Devils came to life and outscored the Purple Knights the rest of the way. But they couldn’t climb out of the early hole and fell at home.

Maya Kerstetter and Anna Walther each had 10 points for Hamp (1-1, 0-1 Valley Wheel).

Pittsfield 63, Amherst Regional 23 — Despite 11 points and seven rebounds by Sarah Mangels, the Hurricanes fell on the road.

Amherst, which had more 3-pointers (three) than 2-pointers (two), fell behind 22-4 after the first quarter and never threatened.

South Hadley 71, Commerce 12 — Thirteen different players scored as the Tigers (1-1) rolled over the Red Raiders in Springfield.

Megan Lynes led South Hadley with 14 points, while Delaney Duprat added 11.

St. Joseph’s 48, Gateway Regional 16 — Kaitlin Mastello scored six points to lead the Gators (0-1) in the season-opening loss in Pittsfield.

Hockey

Amherst Regional 5, Central 1 — Luke Allen scored four goals to lead the Hurricanes (1-1) to their first win of the season in Springfield.

Chris Holbrook added a tally for Amherst, while Jack Rees picked up an assist.

Eddie Sablak made 19 saves in goal and also had an assist in the victory.
