On senior night for the Frontier Regional boys basketball team, it was a pair of Smith Academy seniors that won the game and the Hampshire League title for the Falcons.

Keith Natale and Derek McMahon combined for 35 points in a 54-52 road victory.

Natale posted a game high of 22 points and pulled down 14 rebounds, but McMahon (13 points) knocked down a 3-pointer in the final minutes that put Smith (17-3, 14-2) up for good.

Ben Ruddock scored 12 points with seven rebounds in his final home game for Frontier (4-14, 3-11), while fellow senior Niko Ames had nine points and six assists. Justin Farrick added 10 points and seven boards.

Gateway Regional 57, Franklin Tech 44 — The Gators (14-8, 14-2 Tri-County) won their senior night game behind a strong first quarter and double-digit performances by the Dowers brothers.

Calvin Dowers led Gateway with 20 points, 10 steals and eight rebounds, while Curtis added 14 points.

Justin Edinger added 11 points in the win.

West Springfield 67, Northampton 59 — Jake Ross poured in a career high 40 points with 19 rebounds, but the Blue Devils (15-4, 7-1 Valley Wheel) missed a chance to clinch the outright league title.

Ross’ previous career-best total was 30 against Sci-Tech Jan. 6.

Northampton, which already owns at least a share of the league crown, can win it outright by winning either at Amherst Wednesday or at home against Westfield Thursday.

Granby 71, Monson 64 — Jesse Molin had 27 points, seven rebounds and five assists as the Rams held off the Mustangs in a battle of tournament-bound Bi-County teams.

Corey Baker also scored 18 for Granby (15-4, 11-4 Bi-County).

Hopkins Academy 74, Athol 47 — After trailing by a point after the first quarter, the Golden Hawks hit the gas in the second and third quarters to pull away in Hadley.

The brothers Morrison both shined for Hopkins. Brett Morrison had 18 points, while Jon Morrison scored 13. Spencer Butterfield added 14 points and five assists.

McCann Tech 64, Smith Vocational 43 — Anthony Karch led the Vikings (8-9, 8-7 Tri-County) with 16 points in the road loss.

Kaleb Trombley added 10 points and Damon Soto nine for Smith Voke, which must beat Westfield Voke at home Wednesday to make the playoffs.

Renaissance 72, Hampshire 54 — Matthew Babyak scored a career-high 18 points with 10 rebounds, but the Raiders (11-8) fell to the undefeated Pheonix (18-0, 13-0) on the road.

Nick Malo dished nine assists in the contest, and Brendan Bzdel grabbed nine rebounds for Hampshire.

South Hadley 54, Belchertown 32 — TJ Fitzell led the charge for the Tigers (12-6), recording 20 points and 11 rebounds in a double-double effort.

Cam Earle added 12 points in the victory.

Corey Henson was the only player to score in double digits for the Orioles (3-15), as he finished with 10.

Amherst 68, East Longmeadow 60 — In a back-and-forth game, the Hurricanes held on for road win.

Tyrell Jackson hit three consecutive 3-pointers midway through the fourth quarter to push Amherst’s lead to 11, but the Spartans battled back to four. Key free throws down the stretch by the Hurricanes sealed the win.

Jackson finished with 13 points to lead Amherst in the win. Isaac Seigle chipped in 12 and Tom Cook added 11.

Devonte’ McCall (six blocks) and Will Cuffee each pulled down 11 boards in the win.

Girls basketball

Holyoke Catholic 44, Hampden Charter 26 — The Gaels took a 13-2 lead after the first quarter and coasted from there.

Kyra Robins paced Catholic (14-4) with 14 points, while Julia Hiney added eight.

Pathfinder 41, Smith Vocational 16 — Stephanie Start finished with eight points for the Vikings (3-15) in the loss.

Hockey

Belchertown 4, Turners Falls 1 — The Orioles (8-7-3, 6-4-3 Fay-Wright) moved to within a single point of clinching a tournement berth with the win at Collins-Moylan Rink in Greenfield.

Alex Bachand scored two goals with an assist for Belchertown. Jon Rodrigue (assist) and Dylan Gillen added a tally apiece, while Jordan Henault and Ryan Dupont each had an assist.

Ryan Lenois scored from Nick Murphy for the Indians (6-11-2, 3-10-1).

Kyle Greene earned the win with 17 saves, while Brandon Bryant stopped 34 in the loss.

Belchertown plays St. Mary 8 a.m. Tuesday in Westfield, then is at Amherst Regional 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
