Minutemen soccer blanked to end season

Andy Stadler scored all three goals for the George Washington men's soccer team which shut out the University of Massachusetts 3-0 Sunday afternoon in Washington, D.C.

The Minutemen finished the season 7-7-3 overall and 4-5 in the Atlantic 10.

AMHERST - With three minutes, 41 seconds left in the first sudden-death overtime, Sarah Blythe-Wood of Richmond was the last person the University of Massachusetts field hockey team wanted to see sprinting down the left sideline with the ball.

Roswess gives UMass OT win

Sophomore forward Chris Roswess scored after five minutes, 54 seconds of overtime to give the University of Massachusetts men's soccer team a 2-1 victory at Richmond Friday night.

Roswess also assisted on the first goal of the game by Mark DeSantis at 66:34.

Minutewomen's season ends with tourney loss

The University of Massachusetts women's soccer team ended its season with a 3-0 loss to Fordham in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament Thursday in Charlotte, N.C.

Lauren Luckey (one goal allowed, six saves) and Emily Cota (two, seven) each played a half in goal for the sixth-seeded Minutewomen (6-12-2) who were outshot 27-7.

AMHERST - Flu has hampered the University of Massachusetts men's basketball team's preparation for the season without the Minutemen even having a player infected.

The closed scrimmage between UMass and Boston University scheduled for Saturday was called off because of influenza affecting the Terriers.

Katie Kelly scored three goals to lead the 19th-ranked University of Massachusetts field hockey team to a 6-0 win over West Chester Sunday at Garber Field, and into the Atlantic 10 Tournament next weekend in Amherst.

UMass advances to A-10 tourney

Sophomore Lauren Yelinek scored her first goal for the University of Massachusetts women's soccer team which defeated Richmond 1-0 Sunday at Rudd Field, and qualified for the Atlantic 10 Tournament beginning Thursday.

It is the first tournament appearance for the Minutewomen (6-10-2, 5-6 A-10) since 2004.

King scores four to lead Minutewomen

Senior forward Cher King scored four straight goals for the 19th-ranked University of Massachusetts field hockey team which defeated La Salle 6-3 Friday at Garber Field.

It was the first time since Sept. 6, 1997, that a Minutewoman scored four goals in a game. Erica Johnston scored four that day in an 8-1 win.

UMass hockey team enters poll at No. 17

The University of Massachusetts hockey team's third straight win to open the year was enough to earn the Minutemen their first ranking of the season on Monday.

UMass (3-0, 2-0 Hockey East) entered the U.S. College Hockey Online's top 20 poll at No. 17.

This is the first time that the Minutemen were ranked since last November.

Minutewomen rout Billikens

The University of Massachusetts field hockey team had four players score two goals apiece in a 10-1 rout at Saint Louis on Sunday.

Senior captain Katie Kelly led the Minutewomen (10-7, 1-3 Atlantic 10) with two goals and four assists.

Makaela Potts added two goals and two assists for UMass, and Kate Heineman and Anniek Scholten each scored twice.

UMass blanked for eighth time

The University of Massachusetts women's soccer team suffered its eighth shutout of the season in a 3-0 loss at Dayton Sunday.

The Flyers (12-0-5, 8-0-1 Atlantic 10) scored just one minute, 28 seconds into the game, and remained one of two undefeated teams in the country. Lauren Luckey made nine saves in goal for the Minutewomen (4-10-2, 3-6-0 A-10) who were outshot 22-7.

OT loss for Minutewomen at Xavier

Brittany Green gave the Xavier women's soccer team a 2-1 overtime win over the University of Massachusetts when she scored her second goal of the night at 90 minutes, 38 seconds Friday in Cincinnati.

Midfielder Therese Smith sent the game into overtime when she scored with two minutes remaining in regulation for the Minutewomen (4-9-2. 3-5 Atlantic 10).

Owls edge Minutewomen in 2 OT

Bridget Settles scored after three minutes, 45 seconds of the second overtime to give the Temple field hockey team a 2-1 victory over the University of Massachusetts Sunday in Philadelphia.

It was the second straight loss for the 10th-ranked Minutewomen (9-6, 0-2 Atlantic 10) who fell 3-0 to Saint Joseph's on Friday.

Stuart Amick and Andrew Henshaw scored second-half goals for the University of Massachusetts men's soccer team which broke a two-game losing streak with a 2-0 win over Saint Joseph's Sunday at Rudd Field.

Shane Curran-Hays made three saves in goal for the Minutemen (5-4-3, 2-2 Atlantic 10) to earn his second shutout of the season.

Temple pulls out close win over Minutemen

Tyler Witmer scored after 104 minutes, 22 seconds to give the Temple men's soccer team a 1-0 win over the University of Massachusetts Friday afternoon at Rudd Field.

The winning goal for the Owls (7-4-1, 2-0 Atlantic 10) came in the second overtime.

The Minutemen (4-4-3, 1-2 A-10) outshot Temple 5-2 in the overtimes, but the Owls had a 14-12 shot advantage overall.

Minutemen lose in double OT

The University of Massachusetts men's soccer team suffered its first Atlantic 10 loss Sunday, 1-0 in double overtime game at Dayton.

Alex Torda scored at 106 minutes, 32 seconds on an assist from Evan McCreary for the Flyers (7-3-1, 2-0 A-10).

Dayton had a 17-10 shot advantage over the Minutemen (4-3-3, 1-1 A-10). Chris Roswess had two of the four shots on goal for UMass.

UMass edges Xavier

Sophomore defender Andrew Henshaw scored his second career goal at 35 minutes, 58 seconds off a corner kick taken by Mark Dangleis to give the University of Massachusetts men's soccer team a 1-0 win over Xavier in Cincinnati Friday night.

Jeffs field hockey defeats Babson

The 20th-ranked Amherst College field hockey team scored the first three goals en route to a 5-3 win over Babson College Thursday night at Babson Park.

Elizabeth Schink scored two goals for the Jeffs (6-3), and Molly Malloy, Carly Dudzik and Katie McMahon added one apiece.

Emily Vitale made two saves in goal for Amherst, which had a 22-10 advantage in shots.
