Falcons overpower hardworking Northampton girls lacrosse

SPRINGFIELD - The Northampton girls lacrosse team's hopes for a title came to an end Wednesday, as the fourth-seeded Blue Devils were ousted in the Western Massachusetts Division 1 Tournament semifinals against No 1 Minnechaug, 17-3 at American International College.

Cora Hirschfeld leads Amherst girls lacrosse with seven goals

Cora Hirschfeld scored seven times with one assist for the Amherst Regional girls lacrosse team in a 12-12 tie Thursday at West Springfield.

Melanie Sharick and Emma Biggs each scored two goals for the tournament-bound Hurricanes (9-8-1, 7-2-1 Valley League). Eliza Fishman had the other score for Amherst.

Goaltender Addison Gamliel made 13 saves for the Hurricanes.

Northampton girls lacrosse stumbles at Minnechaug

Emily King had two goals and one assist for the Northampton girls lacrosse team which lost 16-5 to Minnechaug in Wilbraham on Monday.

Lauren Durfer, Molly King and Johanna Fleming each added one goal for the Blue Devils (11-3, 1-3 Valley Wheel).

Nicole Grevior finished with 11 saves for Northampton.

Hirschfeld scores eight goals, including winner for Amherst girls lacrosse

Of the 23 goals Amherst Regional junior Cora Hirschfeld has scored in the last three games, none was more dramatic as the last one she notched on Friday against Belchertown.

In a back-and-forth girls lacrosse affair in Amherst, Hirschfeld came around the back of the net and fired a shot high past Belchertown goalie Alicia Beaupre to give the Hurricanes a 13-12 win.

NORTHAMPTON - The Northampton girls lacrosse team opened a lot of eyes with 10 consecutive wins to start the season. In Friday's 15-7 loss to perennial power Longmeadow, the Blue Devils' eyes were opened - to what it will take to win in the tournament, but also to just how good they can be. Northampton (10-1) fell behind 8-2 by halftime, but played Longmeadow toe-to-toe in the second half and got its potent offense on track. "If we play them again, we have to re-emphasize what we did in the second half, and maintain the window of hope," said Hamp coach Sue Biggs. "If we pick up more ground balls, it's a much different game." With the victory, the eight-time champion Lancers (10-2) secured a postseason berth. Northampton had already clinched.

Sharick leads Amherst girls lacrosse to win

Melanie Sharick registered six points for the Amherst Regional girls lacrosse team which defeated Bratleboro, Vt., 11-7 at home Friday.

Sharick scored three goals and added three assists. Cora Hirschfeld had a team-high four goals with an assist for the Hurricanes (4-7).

Eliza Fishman scored twice, while Sarah Mangels and Olivia Holcomb each had a goal and an assist. Cora Torton added one assist.

King sisters lead Hamp girls lacrosse to 6-0

Northampton 9, Westfield 6 - The King sisters scored eight times and the Blue Devils (6-0) remained undefeated with the win in Westfield.

Emily King led the way with six goals, while Molly King had two goals and one assist. Meghan Harrington also scored once in the win.

Kyla Power made 13 saves for Northampton.

Amherst girls lacrosse fall to Longmeadow

The Amherst Regional girls lacrosse team trailed by nine at halftime and became the undefeated Lancers' latest victims with a 16-3 loss.

Melanie Sharick had two goals for Amherst (1-3), while Cora Hirschfeld had the other. Lydi Cohen made eight saves for the Hurricanes.

Northampton girls lacrosse improves to 4-0

Northampton 15, Brattleboro 5 - Emily King (two assists) and Sierra Hart (one assist) each scored four times as the Blue Devils (4-0) cruised at Smith Vocational.

Johanna Fleming and Emily Allcroft each had two goals and one assist, while Meghan Harrington (one assist), Lauren Weston, Leila Kouakou each scored once.

Ashley Babcock was credited with an assist.

Emily King scores six goals for unbeaten Northampton lacrosse

Emily King tallied six goals and two assists as the Northampton girls lacrosse team remained unbeaten with a 15-0 win over Cathedral Thursday in Springfield.

Molly King (two assists) and Lauren Durfer had two goals each for the Blue Devils (3-0). Emily Allcroft, Shannon Keefe (one assist), Ashley Babcock (one assist), Sierra Hart and Jordan Daniels all scored once.

Amherst girls lacrosse falls to Agawam

Agawam 15, Amherst Regional 2 - Melanie Sharick scored both goals for the Hurricanes (0-2) in the loss at home.

Abby MacLeod had two saves for Amherst.

Deerfield Academy 12, South Hadley 5 - Martha Hamlin scored twice as the Tigers lost their opener in Deerfield.

Tigers fall to Longmeadow girls lacrosse

CHICOPEE - Drama was in short supply in the Western Massachusetts Division 1 Tournament semifinals Tuesday at Elms College, as is often the case in games involving the Longmeadow girls lacrosse team.

Tiger boys get top lacrosse seed

Having the top western Massachuesetts goaltender in Sean Mackey helped the South Hadley boys lacrosse team go 18-1 in the regular season.

The defending Western Massachusetts Division 2 champion, which also has one of the area's leading scorers in Chris Menard, received the No. 1 seed in this year's tournament.

Amherst tops Cathedral

Amherst Regional 13, Cathedral 8 - Cora Hirschfeld scored six goals, and Eliza Aierstuck and Melanie Sharick each had two for the Hurricanes (7-10, 6-3 Valley League) who won on the road.

Leah Goldman, Olivia Holcomb and Alisa Holm each scored once for Amherst, and Sophia Ryan had one assist .

Goaltender Kate Goldstein made 11 saves for the Hurricanes.

The South Hadley boys lacrosse team wrapped up an impressive eight-day stretch with a 12-9 win over rival Longmeadow at home Friday night.

Belchertown girls get first win

Half an hour after the game ended, the Belchertown girls lacrosse team was still screaming in delight.

The Orioles, who are in their first season as a varsity program, earned their first-ever win 13-10 over Cathedral in Springfield on Thursday.

Hirschfeld powers Amherst

Amherst Regional 11, Tantasqua 5 - Cora Hirschfeld scored all four of her goals in the first half as the Hurricanes (4-8) raced out to an 8-1 lead and coasted over the Warriors at home.

Melanie Sharick had three goals and three assists for Amherst, while Olivia Holcomb scored two goals and Laura Woodbridge and Sarah Mangels (one assist) each added single goals.

Orioles lose at Westfield

Westfield 14, Belchertown 4 - Khailee Beach, Brianna Del Valle, Stefanie Dufresne and Abbey Norden each scored one goal for the Orioles (0-9) who lost on the road.

Samantha Teehan made 11 saves in goal for Belchertown.

Hamp tops West Side

Northampton 9, West Springfield 7 - Erin King scored three goals, and Johanna Fleming (assist) and Molly King each had two as the Blue Devils (7-2) overcame a 3-2 deficit at halftime to win at home.

Emily King had one goal and two assists for Northampton, and Kaylie Daniels scored once.

Kayla Power made seven saves in net for the Devils.
