Amherst, Northampton win indoor track league title

League championships were on the line Friday during the final PVIAC indoor track meet of the regular season at Smith College.

The Amherst Regional boys beat Longmeadow 57-38 and Minnechaug 70-25 to finish undefeated at 9-0 and win the Pioneer League.

Jesse Coull won the 2-mile in 10 minutes, 13 seconds, while Michael Stender won the 600 in 1:27.8 to pace the effort.

Indoor track: Adrienne Pascucci wins three events for Northampton

Adrienne Pascucci's strong indoor track season continued Friday as she won three events to pace Northampton's 85-10 victory over Chicopee at Smith College.

Northampton girls 4x800 relay team second

The Northampton girls 4x800-meter relay team placed second Tuesday at a 4x800 relay meet held at Smith College.

Adrienne Pascucci, Mariel Lutz, Joni Sullivan and Alex Dibrindisi finished in 10 minutes, 21.8 seconds, six seconds behind Longmeadow.

Hamp's time qualified it for the state Division 3 meet.

Northampton indoor track fairs well at Team Pentathlon

The Northampton girls indoor track & field team placed fourth at the Team Pentathlon Thursday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

The team of Adrienne Pascucci, Meghan Harrington, Leah Tompkins, Sage Loomis and Joni Sullivan combined for 2,584 points.

Marshfield won followed by Old Rochester and Milton.

Adrienne Pascucci wins two events for Northampton indoor track

Adrienne Pascucci of Northampton won two events and placed second in another as the Northampton girls indoor track team topped Westfield 62-33 in Friday night's season-opening meet at Smith College.

In the Pioneer League action, Pascucci won the long jump (14 feet, 7.5 inches) and the 55-meter hurdles (9.46 seconds) and was second in the 300 (45.52).

Relay teams help Northampton boys tie for western Massachusetts track title

WESTFIELD - The Northampton boys got strong performances by their relay teams to tie Holyoke for first place Saturday at the Western Massachusetts Track and Field Championship. A win in the 4x800 meter relay and a second place in the 4x400 meter relay gave the Blue Devils 57 points to match the Purple Knights at Westfield State University. The Blue Devils needed to place second in the last event of the day, the 4x400 meter relay, while Holyoke went pointless for the two to share the championship. That happened when Northampton won the silver with a time of 3:35.30.

WESTFIELD - Amherst Regional's junior Tchuijo Nkamebo maintained his personal dynasty in the triple jump event at Saturday's Western Massachusetts Track and Field Championships at Westfield State University.

The Western Massachusetts Track & Field Championship could not have fallen on a better day.

The meet, which is Saturday at Westfield State University, is two days after the seniors at Northampton finished school.

Amherst Regional track star Tchuijo Nkamebo shows his versatility

Heading into Saturday's western Massachusetts championships, the Hurricanes' junior is a strong threat in the triple jump, the 200-meter dash as well as a member of the 4x100 relay squad. Nkamebo earned three first-place finishes as the Hurricanes came in second at the western Massachusetts Division 1 championships last Saturday in Holyoke. Nkamebo won the triple jump at 46 feet, 10 inches. That distance established a personal record and a new school mark, previously held by Tommie Lark (46-8½) in 2007. He then went on to take the 200-meter race in 22.86 seconds.

Tilly Taylor leads Frontier girls to second at Division 2 track & field meet

BUCKLAND - Tilly Taylor won the javelin with a distance of 121 feet, 8 inches to lead the Frontier Regional girls track & field team to a second-place finish at the Western Massachusetts Division 2 Championship Thursday at Mohawk Trail.

Hamp enjoys home Steele Relays

Northampton High School hosted the Steele Relays for the first time Saturday, and the host Blue Devils fielded five separate winning teams.

The meet is usually held at Holyoke High School, but for a number of reasons it had to be moved this year.

A pair of South Hadley indoor track and field state champions had strong performances but fell just short of the top three at Saturday's all-state championships.

Both Jon Horstman and Brianna Tabin finished fourth in their respective events at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

At Saturday's western Massachusetts swimming championships, Holyoke Catholic standout sophomore Meriza Werenski overcame more than just the rest of the field in taking home a pair of individual titles.

Devils' relay team second in New England

The Northampton 4x400-meter relay team was fortunate to earn a spot at the New England championships. When the Blue Devils arrived Saturday, they showed everyone they belonged. The Northampton team ran a perfect race and set a blistering time as it finished second in 3 minutes, 53.01 seconds at Veterans Stadium in New Britain, Conn.

Tough day at the track for Northampton

WESTFIELD - Even without its usual anchor, the Northampton 4x400-meter relay team is still pretty good, even if the final result Saturday doesn't show it.

Adrienne Pascucci, Mia Toffoli, Emma Larson and Phoebe Hopkins finished eighth in 4 minutes, 0.60 seconds in an incredibly fast relay at the All-State Track & Field Championships at Westfield State College.
