Bicyclist injured in accident in Hadley
HADLEY — A bicyclist was being treated in the intensive care unit of Baystate Medical Center in Springfield Wednesday night after he collided with a car at the intersection of Rocky Hill Road and North Maple Street at 3:20 p.m., police said.
Hadley Police Sgt. Damion Shanley said Aidan Stone, 21, of 44 North Maple St., suffered “some significant trauma” but was responsive at the scene of the accident.
Details about his condition were unavailable.
Shanley said a vehicle driven by Lindsay Pipczynski, 29, of Holyoke, was driving west on Rocky Hill Road through the intersection on a green light. Stone, heading north on North Maple Street, crossed into the path of the vehicle, which struck him on his right side, Shanley said.
Although Pipczynski had the right of way, Shanley said she “had some trouble seeing because of the glare from the sunlight.”
He said police were not able to interview Stone about the accident because he was hospitalized, but hoped to do so soon.
Stone had just left his home, a little less than a half mile away, prior to the accident, police said.
Shanley said he did not expect any citations to be issued in the accident.
One lane of the intersection was closed for about 30 minutes following the crash, he said, and the vehicle was towed due to front-end damage.
