Joel Spiro: Gubernatorial candidate Don Berwick is right choice, not only for Massachusetts
To the editor:
If not now, when? If not Massachusetts, where? Don Berwick is the only Democratic candidate for governor with the progressive values, proven national leadership and executive skills to tackle the critical issues facing the Commonwealth and the country.
A large majority of Americans believe the country is going in the wrong direction; pessimism reigns. With Berwick as governor, Massachusetts can show the country progressive solutions to its problems. Major issues are economic gains going to the 1 percent, high unemployment, flat wages and more children in poverty and people in prison, growing medical costs, low academic results in many schools, enormous student loans, global warming and more.
Berwick would support equitable tax laws, increasing the minimum wage, creating new jobs, finance new business and research and battle for single-payer health care. He is the only candidate opposing casinos and the proposed Kinder Morgan gas pipeline.
Berwick is not a politician but an accomplished senior executive who wants to change the status quo. President Obama cited his executive and management skills when appointing him to lead Medicare and Medicaid with a budget of $800 billion. Vote for Berwick Sept. 9
