George Goodwin, Jr.: One more note about casinos in the state

To the editor:

That was a very thoughtful guest column by Bill Dwight in a recent Gazette. I only wish he had made one further point concerning casinos. A major argument for introducing them in Massachusetts is that they bring more finances to the government at a time when taxes seem to be particularly unpopular. He might have added that you can buy more civilization with taxes than with casinos.
