Kelvin Kindahl: Increase in minimum wage will not reduce hiring
To the editor:
The secondary headline, “While ‘overdue,’ increase could curb hiring, local business owners say” on the front page of the Nov. 21 Gazette is an old canard that should not have been repeated. The idea that increasing the minimum wage would reduce hiring is an outright lie. Every business owner knows that employees are hired because there is work which has to be done, not because of low wage levels. No business owner hires extra employees to sit around with nothing to do just because they don’t cost much, and every business owner will pay what they must to get qualified help.
