Linda Butler: Vote for Klein for city council
To the editor:
Alisa Klein is an outstanding candidate to represent Ward 7 on the Northampton City Council. Alisa has what it takes to function effectively as a city councilor.
After getting to know her through her work for the Leeds Civic Association, I know Alisa has a good head for dealing with the complex problems we face as a community. She can be relied on to take a mature, thoughtful, even-handed approach to researching the issues, listening to constituents, working with other city officials, and making decisions. Both her personal and professional backgrounds make Alisa exceptionally well-qualified for the role of city councilor. First, she is ready, willing, and able to serve all the residents of Ward 7. Our ward is home to people with a range of income levels, and we all need a city councilor who can understand our concerns.
Alisa can. She is both a successful small business owner and someone who weathered economic hardships growing up. Second, the choices she has made in her career, and the volunteer work she has done in the community, show she has the compassion for others that every public servant should have. Finally, the skills she has developed in her work — work that includes public policy analysis, mediation and advising nonprofits on how to create, manage and deliver programs — are terrific skills for a city councilor. Alisa will be a strong, sensible voice for Ward 7, and I urge Ward 7 voters to support her on election day.
