Madison Charbonneau: Shutdown spurs local drive for Northampton Survival Center
To the editor:
After learning that the government shutdown has halted funding for the Women, Infants, Children and other supplemental programs, I began organizing a infant formula, diaper and food drive to benefit the Northampton Survival Center.
I am a firm believer that public assistance programs support women and children in need, and when these programs find their funding cut, it is women and children who suffer most. In response to the government shutdown, we will be accepting donations of food, baby food, formula and diapers weekend at my place of employment, Essentials, located at 88 Main St., Northampton. Donations will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
