Stephen Donnelly: Many reason to vote for Tautznik for senator

To the editor:

Seventeen years ago, Easthampton was a decaying mill town. Mike Tautznik became mayor and initiated changes that pulled the city from the brink, transforming it into a vibrant and growing commercial and artistic community.

Empty storefronts are now full and thriving. Shuttered mills are converted into businesses and apartments. The Manhan Rail Trail bisects the town, providing recreation, transportation and economic development. Easthampton has a new high school, senior center, public safety complex, RMV, solar generating plant, and city hall to meet our needs for decades to come. The renovated Ferry Street Park has a band shell that provides free weekly summertime concerts. Many acres of farmland, aquifer and forest have been permanently protected. Nashawannuck Pond has been transformed into a pristine downtown jewel. There are more accomplishments too numerous to include, all accomplished while keeping taxes down.

Mike does his homework; he masters the facts and knows how to make government work for citizens. He listens to what people have to say, and has a reasonable and pragmatic way of approaching issues. He’s also adept at reconciling individuals with opposing viewpoints whenever possible, an important asset for a legislator.

I’ve been an Easthampton resident since 1993, and have been extremely impressed with the progress of the city. Mike Tautznik will represent us as a state senator in the same responsible, productive, and hardworking manner he has as a mayor, which is why everyone should vote for him in the special election on Oct. 8.

Mike gets it, he stands for peoples needs while understanding the fiscal constraints of his constituents. He is a great mayor and will take all that knowledge to the statehouse. He has served us well in Easthampton.

Nashawannuck Pond transformed into a pristine jewel. Keeping taxes down. You forgot about his efforts to get the bridge on Rte. 10 replaced.
