Dave King: Obama’s handling of Syria a diplomatic triumph
To the editor:
It seems that recently President Obama can’t get anything right, according to detractors on both the right and the left. I can empathize. Since his inauguration I have noticed a marked decline in the quality of my Christmas presents, and I have had a head wind cycling to work three times just this week!
While the failings of the Obama administration are too numerous to list here, his recent dealings with Syria are not among them, despite the wailings of the pundits. Without firing a shot, the president got Syria to admit to owning chemical weapons, got the Russians to take responsibility for them, got the rabid warmongers in Congress to oppose military action and set a precedent for the limitations of presidential power under the War Powers Act. Of course, since he didn’t kill anybody, he is obviously a weakling.
In the end, however, I am relieved that our incompetent president has somehow bumbled his way to yet another historic diplomatic triumph.
