Carrie Goldner Hemenway: By overlooking Jewish holidays, Gazette gets it wrong
To the editor:
The Jewish High Holy Days just passed, Roshashana last week and Yom Kippur this past weekend, and not a word in the Gazette.
I was expecting to see a feature on families and congregations celebrating this sacred time of celebration, reflection and atonement. A few years ago your paper did not cover Passover, another important Jewish holiday.
So I have to ask myself why our community newspaper, one I read every day, would not acknowledge this holiday, when you can be sure you’ll have an array of features and recipes for other religious holidays such as Easter and Christmas.
With a disturbing trend towards anti-Semitism in the world, I look to our daily newspaper to be inclusive and conscious of what’s important to all of our neighbors.
Please get it right next time.
L’Shana Tova (Happy New Year) to all.
