Some amazing things about work in the US

To the editor:

Amazing. I read a story in the Gazette about the company C&S. And was amazed that no where did it even talk about the tactics of some of the big companies here in Massachusetts. A gentleman who has worked for the company for nine years as a security guard in South Hatfield is suddenly told that a new company is taking over. This in turn causes very high stress. At 60 it is hard for this man to find another job. Then he is told that all his vacation time is no longer there. He’s told he has to start over. And yet the labor union says nothing. He is told that its a new company and they can do what they want.

Amazing. What is going on here?

Other companies are doing the same things, in other fields. Where are the so called people who are supposed to protect workers? This man is barely surviving and yet his job is at risk, after nine years of being loyal. It is everywhere. Fast food, grocery stores, hotels, motels and hundreds of other companies. Workers with their backs against the wall.

What is amazing is that, these people, if they lose the job they can’t get unemployment. Because it’s a new company. Isn’t that amazing? This is absurd, what in the world is going on? Where are our mayors, senators and congressmen? We just had an election and this is going on. Easthampton, Northampton and other officials that we all elected, should look into this.
