Carleen Bigelow: Former ‘lunch lady’ appreciated Northampton send-off

To the editor:

I am writing to thank all the people who gave me a wonderful retirement party in Northampton and to tell them all how much their generosity was appreciated. The happy well-wishes and gifts were such a surprise to me.

I had been working as a “lunch lady,” as the children always referred to us, for the Northampton lunch program for the elementary schools for 26 years and have enjoyed watching children start and grow and finish elementary years and move on.

But after raising three children of my own, I want to relax and spend time with my youngest grandson, Dillon. I look forward to seeing more of him and my granddaughter, Lily, and her brother, Jacob.

But I just wanted everyone to realize how much you all meant to me. I thank you all again for the flowers and gifts and thank you ... very much.

Carleen Bigelow
