Wendy Sinton: City needs to help Center for Arts
To the editor:
I heartily agree with Glenn Siegel’s column last week about the enormous importance of the Center for the Arts to our city’s vibrancy. City leaders, all of you, need to take notice that we are in danger of becoming a restaurant-only experience, and that is not a long-term strategy for any city. The Center for the Arts, is a non-profit, like the Academy (of Music), and it gives to the city in so many ways. I grew up in the Valley when Northampton was “closed” and part of its revival and livability and energy for the past many years has been all the different cultural and art venues that are (and were) available.
The city needs to help the Center for the Arts survive and find affordable new space. The city helped the Academy through a crisis a few years ago. Time to move before it’s too late.
