Fran Henry: Mountain Goat closing a loss felt by many
To the editor:
I write a note of appreciation related to a news item (“Mountain Goat ends 24-year run,” Gazette, March 30) announcing the closing of the Mountain Goat. I have lived in the Hilltowns for 30 years and I appreciate the dedicated service of so many business owners who keep high-quality goods in their stores, keep fine people in their employ year after year and treat ordinary customers like me very well just by doing their jobs, day after day. The Mountain Goat is such a business.
One of the positive and enduring aspects of our downtown Northampton is the vibrancy of businesses and when a business has to close for any reason, the loss ripples and will be felt by many people. While I visited the Mountain Goat March 30 to say goodbye and to give a thank you, I realize that other businesses have closed in the past few years that I did not have a chance to similarly appreciate.
