Michael Pill: Supports Dan Winslow for U.S. Senate

To the editor:

Although I am a lifelong Democratic Party activist who has never before voted for a Republican, I have decided to support Dan Winslow for U.S. Senate.

There comes a point where one must focus on character and competence over ideological purity and party labels. Dan is an honest, decent person who we can count on to work hard to serve all Massachusetts residents. He reminds me of Edward Brooke, a Massachusetts Republican who served with distinction as the first African-American U.S. Senator since the post-Civil War Reconstruction era.

Dan supports abortion rights and gay marriage.

Unlike the Democratic Party candidates for U.S. Senate, Dan is not a career politician. He served as a Massachusetts District Court judge, resolving conflicts among citizens, worked a private lawyer and as legal counsel to a Massachusetts governor.

In a Washington environment mired in partisan gridlock, Dan will reach across party lines to find pragmatic solutions to the many problems confronting our government.

Today we face a host of issues crucial to our nation’s survival. They include foreign military and diplomatic policy, immigration, employment, energy, government spending and taxation.

Dan doesn’t claim to have all the answers — no one does. He does promise to work hard, level with voters, not be a prisoner of ideology of either the right or the left, and strive to be a bridge between Congressional Democrats and Republicans who have forgotten they must work together to find practical workable solutions to our nation’s problems.
