Faults Gazette  for ‘scandal-thirsty’ coverage

To the editor:

Paperwork errors now rate as news?

How discouraging that the Gazette saw fit to publish an article disclosing information about one of our leading citizens and a woman widely regarded as a well-trained and highly talented psychotherapist (“Psychologist fined over paperwork error in Amherst,” Feb. 26).

Katherine Appy’s service on the school board should be commended. Like other citizens who volunteer to serve our community without compensation, she dedicates countless hours to the betterment of our schools and our town. Our volunteer public servants deserve praise.

Certainly the Gazette has a right to discuss the decisions they make and the positions they take in their roles, but let’s drop the media’s scandal-thirsty pursuit of minor and meaningless news. Appy sent in some paperwork late. Nothing more.
