Worried about demise of U.S. Postal Service
To the editor:
Kent Libby, who just took early retirement in Amherst from the U.S. Postal Service, was considered “irreplaceable” by a fellow worker (“Amherst postman with personal touch retires,” Jan. 30). His last words were, surprisingly, a warning cry about the service itself: “We hate to see it go downhill.”
We love the post office and want it to continue. But a lot of factors are pulling it down. What are these factors? Is the post office, a treasured icon of our democracy, being attacked? If so, can we save it before it is too late? What about it, everyone?
