Pat Oliphant cartoon too graphic
To the editor:
In reading the Weekend Gazette of Jan. 5-6, I was struck by the completely inappropriate political cartoon by Pat Oliphant. How could a historical, well-established publication such as yours choose to devote space to such a graphic display of carnage and violence?
It would seem, in the wake of the Sandy Hook massacre, that we should all, as a society, examine and rectify whatever role we played. The media, with its power to influence minds, should especially be aware of the “Law of Unintended Consequences.”
On the same page, two letters to the editor exhibited clear, cogent discussion regarding the horrible, unmitigated evil perpetrated by the crazed madman in Newtown, Conn.
As an influential source of news and entertainment for our area, I feel you should exhibit more discretion when it comes to the content you publish. Viewpoints such as shown by Oliphant have no place in our modern expression of media responsibility.
