New protocol needed for Northampton crosswalks
To the editor:
The recent fatality at a Northampton crosswalk makes it clear that something needs to be addressed.
I am writing because if New York City can get their walkers to cross together, why can’t Northampton get a hold on it?
I believe there should be signs that say “Stop, look and walk together.”
Aren’t walkers smart enough to know that they can stop more easily than a moving vehicle? It is so irritating to drive through Northampton and have to stop for pedestrians who walk through the crosswalks 15 or 20 feet apart.
As for Route 66, how about putting up more 25 miles per hour signs — like ever 500 feet — and/or reflective signs saying the same?
