Harvard faculty was target of writer Buckley’s dig

To the editor:

To support his dim view of “professor” Elizabeth Warren and “professor” Barack Obama, both associated with Harvard, a letter-writer on Nov. 21 quoted William F. Buckley’s delightful remark, “I’d rather entrust the government of the United States to the first 400 people listed in the Boston telephone directory than to the faculty of Harvard University.” The writer seems to have missed the brilliant and ironic Buckley’s real point.

Buckley was a died-in-the-wool Yale man. His quip was a slap at Harvard. Not at eggheads.
