Don Schneier: Fleitman’s latest just political propaganda

To the editor:

In his Oct. 1 column, Jay Fleitman attempts to explain “Why Republicans Hate Obamacare.” One alternative source of explanation for that is any piece that examines why Republicans hate Obama. Another is any of Fleitman’s previous columns in which he characterizes health care as a business, and the ill as discretionary shoppers. On that basis, by unwitting implication, the Affordable Care Act, which Fleitman tellingly calls “Obamacare,” threatens the profits of interests that are well known to be represented by the Republican Party. The advantage of those two sources is that they elude the rhetorical contrivances of Fleitman’s latest piece of political propaganda.

Taxes for health care are more in keeping with the role of government than taxes for war profiteers who, in fact, create …

Jay Fleitman: Why Republicans hate Obamacare

Monday, September 30, 2013

NORTHAMPTON — There have been few national political issues during my lifetime that have caused such widespread and enduring bitterness as Obamacare. Perhaps only the controversy triggered by Roe v. Wade has had such persistence. Warfare over this program is continuing in Washington between Democrats and Republicans, the most current battles being fought over the federal budget and the debt …
