Kirk Whatley: Small Arms Treaty ‘outsources’ our Second Amendment

To the editor:

Consider this: The Obama administration, through the actions of Secretary of State John Kerry’s signing of the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty, is attempting to outsource the Second Amendment of our Constitution to international review.

You may not like firearms and you may not have any, therefore you may either not care or you may think this is a great idea.

But let me ask you this: How would you feel of countries like Russia, Iran, Cuba and other anti-American countries had a say over the First Amendment? That those countries could decide what you could say, what you could read and what you could watch on your television?

Or how about the Fourth Amendment? How would you like it if those countries could decide the definition of “probable cause” or “unreasonable search and seizure?” Before you welcome the outsourcing of an amendment you personally may not like, just stop and think about how you will feel when the other nine amendments in our Bill of Rights are subject to international determination.
