Jeff Hinrichs: Keep JFK pool open on weekends
To the editor:
I wholeheartedly agree that the JFK pool should remain open on the weekends (editorial, “JFK pool a community gem,” May 9). It is the only public pool in the area and is a vibrant part of the community. It is well-used by all ages: adult lap swimmers who want to stay fit, children enjoying birthday parties with their friends, seniors who take water aerobics classes and teenage lifeguards who rely on it for their summer jobs.
As a long-time member, swimming laps at the JFK pool is a regular part of my exercise regime. Without access to the pool, there would be no other affordable, convenient place to work out. I can’t speak for other members, but I would be willing to pay a bit more for a yearly membership if it meant retaining the weekend hours.
I agree that it is a betrayal of the taxpayers’ trust to limit a valuable community resource that they paid for in good faith.
