Michael Biegner: Bombing shows government cuts have consequences

To the editor:

So now that Boston is off lockdown, now that the marathon bomb suspects have been neutralized, can we talk about “big government”? Can we discuss the ongoing argument by some who say that government should be small enough to drown in a bathroom sink, please?

When we talk about budget deficits and the size of bloated government, can we please also remember that our first responders are part of that same government? Does anyone really believe that had we listened to a certain political party years ago, and shrunk government down to the size of a pressure cooker, that we would have had the manpower, the technology, the logistical support to subdue these madmen?

Every decision has a consequence. For now, all we can do is mourn the loss, and congratulate the people of Boston.
