Don Schneier: Columnist failed to note that conservatives hate PBS
To the editor:
In his latest column about how mean liberals are to conservatives, Jay Fleitman tries to use “Downton Abbey” to his advantage, without mentioning that conservatives want to put its network out of business. Also in the real world, contemporary conservatism rose to power at the peak of a prosperity that was the product of the New Deal, and that has since gotten the life sucked out of it as conservatives have held power. Thus, the salient contrast between the society of “Downton Abbey” and the current American political scene is the absence in the former of hypocritical vampires.
