Gratitude for Northampton, Easthampton firefighters
To the editor:
Fire chiefs Brian Duggan and David Mottor, please share with the men and women who contained the brush fire in the woods adjacent to my home at 601 Florence Road — then eradicated it with surprising rapidity — my deeply-felt thanks.
Seeing the fire spreading before being challenged by Northampton and Easthampton’s finest was truly frightening, with the potential destruction not just of the forested area, but of several homes in its path.
It was clear that both the planning and execution of an effective approach to subduing this challenge reflected a professionalism resulting from the dedication of your personnel who were on site so rapidly and whose effective teamwork was a thing of beauty to observe.
Typically, the public is unaware of the great work you all do, likely a reflection of it being done so well that we simply take this for granted. Were it not for the well-coordinated efforts of your forces, one can only imagine the potential devastation that might have resulted.
Many, many thanks for those brave men and women who daily face danger in the performance of their duties and who stepped up to rescue us last Tuesday morning.
We are forever in your collective debt and will not soon forget the gift you’ve given us.
