Cartoon could inflame bias against Islam
To the editor:
I am a true believer in the practice of the First Amendment, but I am compelled to question the publication of the “Taliban inquisitor” cartoon Oct. 26.
Many people in Waziristan, Pakistan, and in Afghanistan are angry with the Taliban, especially in light of the recent shooting of three young women including Malala Yousafzai, the 14-year-old Pakistani who made international news advocating for girls’ education.
Publishing the cartoon is an affront to responsible journalism; printing that caricature only further inflames Islamaphobia.
Please consider the importance of a responsible newspaper and the expectation of this reader that the Daily Hampshire Gazette Opinion page set higher standards.
