Investing in education is money well spent
To the editor:
I write in response to a letter regarding the tax override proposition for Easthampton schools.
In short, this is so much the right time for a tax override for our schools.
People need to understand that this isn’t simply a question concerning those who have school-age children. The decision we are being asked to make affects anyone who lives in Easthampton and cares about the quality of life we have here.
Understand that our future firefighters, police officers, EMTs, lawyers, business leaders — people who will have a direct effect on our lives in 20 years — are the school-age kids we’re fighting for right now.
Both my kids are out of school, but I plan on living here for many years to come. I know this has been done before, but part of being caring, responsible citizens requires that we adapt to current economic situations and strive to see the big picture.
A little more sacrifice now for all of our welfare and the vibrancy of Easthampton in the future is money well spent.
