Praise for writers’ rally for Obama fundraiser
To the editor:
I so enjoyed spending a recent Sunday afternoon at the Writers for Obama event at the Hotel Northampton. We are so blessed in this area with a plethora of all sorts of artists, but our writers are especially plentiful. I used to say that calling yourself a writer in Northampton was like calling yourself a resident.
The event was so delightful and diverse in tone: from the hilarious email John Katzenbach received from his deceased dog who was shaken by the maltreatment of a fellow resident in dog heaven, Seamus Romney; to Ellie Lipman’s delightful daily poems about the election; to Christopher Benfey’s musings on an empty chair; to the moving editorial by Roland Merullo about his child’s chronic illness; to Joe Ellis’ letter to Obama; and all the essays, poems and stories by the equally wonderful artists.
This was indeed a tribute to our community as well as a fundraiser for the Obama campaign.
