Southampton must regain emergency services lead
To the editor:
Can we have a public discussion about the direction the Southampton Fire Department is taking and examine the need to advance ambulance service to a paramedic level — such as getting per diem paramedics? Should we use the money from the town’s general fund to get both ambulances up and running at the paramedic level?
We need to inform the public about the need to have paramedics readily available, for most people seem uneducated as far as calling 911 and thinking they get the best treatment right away. Southampton lacks that advanced level of service that could be available for the community.
This town was once among the most advanced in this field, but over the past several years has fallen behind.
