Zimmerman has credentials to be effective register
To the editor:
In George Zimmerman we are lucky to have an independent candidate for Register of Deeds with a track record of achievement as Northampton’s treasurer.
One of the things I noticed that he said in applying for the position was this: “The importance of a reliable recording system is working its way through the courts right now — basically Wall Street created its own private recorded system (called MERS — Mortgage Electronic Recording System) to get around public recording systems, and the public is suffering for it.”
While Northampton does not seem to be experiencing the same foreclosure crisis that Springfield does, I sympathize with what Zimmerman says.
I believe that George has the qualifications, education and experience to meet this issue head-on as needed.
He is a long-term resident of Northampton; his children have gone to school here, and those who have had to deal with him have praised his work as treasurer.
Moreover, he has had long experience of the real estate world thanks to his former job with MassMutual. We have a rare opportunity to elect someone as qualified as George Zimmerman for the office of Register of Deeds.
