‘Victim’ speaks back to Romney categorization
To the editor:
Among the many concepts that seem to be evading Republicans lately, the word “taxes” ranks the highest. According to Mitt Romney, 47 percent of Americans don’t pay taxes. I am in the 47 percent that doesn’t pay federal income tax, because my income is too low. Yet, a full 25 percent of my income goes towards taxes to federal, state, and local government. I pay real estate tax, sales tax and excise tax. Every time I pick up my phone, or pay a utility bill, I pay taxes. When I put gas in my car, or put money in the parking meter, I pay taxes.
There is no American who doesn’t pay taxes. Some of us “victims” merely pay a higher percentage of our income in taxes than others.
