UMass sophomore center Casey Wellman's college hockey career is over. His agent, George Bazos, just confirmed that Wellman will sign a free agent contract with the Minnesota Wild.

Wellman, a native of Brentwood, Calif., was undrafted out of high school. He had 23 goals and 22 assists as a sophomore and drew considerable interest from NHL clubs after UMass' season ended Saturday.

Wellman could make his debut Tuesday night against the Edmonton Oilers in Minnesota.
