Newspaper in Education

NIE is an international program with a long history! Most major newspapers around the world have NIE departments. The general mission of all NIE programs is the same: help teachers and students who want to learn from the newspaper. Many programs are also involved in local literacy campaigns and ESL (english as a second language) classes.

The Daily Hampshire Gazetteās NIE program started in the 1980s. Today our NIE program involves over 100 schools from the greater Pioneer Valley. We have a weekly NIE page, Kid Scoop, and we publish serial stories and educational series throughout the year.
