So far it seems like nothing can derail the Northampton in Cal Ripken 10U Tournament play.

Hamp dispatched Frontier, 12-1 in a mercy-rule shortened four-inning state semifinal game, Monday in Sutton.

Northampton will face Groton in the final, Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in Sutton. Groton beat Northbridge 14-4 in the other semifinal. The winner of Tuesday’s game will advance to the New England Regional.

Dallas Elliot led Hamp with three hits including a two-run home run, three runs scored and four RBIs. Alex Houck added two hits, two runs and two RBIs, while Riley Cole had three hits and drove in two runs.

“The team is really hitting the ball well. We’ve been pitching well and giving up very few runs per game. We’ve been really solid defensively,” Hamp coach Bud Houck said. “We’ve talked about team from day one. They kids really have been supportive of one another.”

Ben Zaranek and Gehrig Brynda each had one of Frontier’s two hits, while Matt Como drove in its only run.

Cal Ripken (9)

The Northampton Cal Ripken 9-and-under team completed the District 2 three-peat with a 10-4 win over Frontier on Sunday,

“It’s as huge for the kids. The kids have worked hard the last three weeks, practicing everyday,” coach Sean McDonald said. “I was really proud of kids.”

Hamp advances to the state tournament in Westminster on July 18. Last year, Northampton was knocked out in the state semifinals by Northbridge.

To have a chance to go further, Hamp outscored its opponents 39-13 in the double elimination district tournament.

In the championship game, Northampton had to come from behind as Frontier struck with three runs in the first inning.

In the fifth inning, James Elliot put the game out of reach with a bases clearing triple to make it 8-4.

Hamp and Frontier opened the tournament with a 14-4 Northampton decision in four innings on Saturday morning. Colin Larson went 3 for 3 and Otis Follet had two hits. In a 15-5 win over Hadley Saturday afternoon, Brady McDonald, Quinn McDonald and Follet each had two hits for Hamp.
