Monday’s softball: Sarah Toomey, McKayla Poissant power Frontier past Hopkins Academy

The Frontier Regional softball team had one big inning Monday, but it was enough to win in Hadley.

The Red Hawks scored 10 times in the third and went on to win 11-4 against the Golden Hawks.

Sarah Toomey (two runs, two hits) and McKayla Poissant (run, three hits) each had three-run triples in the frame for Frontier (4-2, 4-2 Franklin).

Cassidy Stankowski (triple) and Amanda Robinson (two hits) each scored twice.

Krystel Enko struck out eight, walked two and allowed three hits over four innings for the win.

Allison Butterfield (two runs), Allie LaClair (RBI, run) and Savannah Ring (two-run double) each had two hits for the Golden Hawks (2-3, 2-3).

Northampton 25, Holyoke 0 (5) — Consecutive win No. 6 came with little resistance as the Blue Devils rolled behind 19 hits and a dominant Mary Greco pitching performance in a mercy-ruled shortened road game.

Hannah Rome (4-for-5, three runs), Kristin Gross (3-4, five runs) and Nadine Harris (2-for-5, two runs) each drove in four runs for Hamp (6-1), while Shannon O’Leary had two hits, three runs and two RBIs.

Greco gave up one hit and two walks, while striking out four in four innings to earn the win.

Smith Vocational 29, Commerce 7 (5) — The Vikings scored 16 times in fourth to pull away in a mercy-rule shortened win in Springfield.

Maddie Spencer-Orrell gave up seven runs, two hits and five walks while striking out 10 to earn the win. She helped herself with four hits, three runs and an RBI.

Rachel Small had a big day with five hits, two runs and two RBIs, while Fawn Mougin had three hits and scored six times.

Holyoke Catholic 15, Ware 2 (5) — Freshman Krista Jasak blasted her first varsity home run as the Gaels (3-4) won in five innings on the road.

Jasak finished with two hits, two runs scored and four RBIs in the win, while classmate Julie Carroll added a team-high three hits along with two runs and three RBIs.

Sydney Brosseau (two runs) and Shannon O’Driscoll (one run) each went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Megan Logan earned the win in the circle. The senior allowed four hits and no walks while striking out nine.

Granby 6, Southwick 2 — Tessa Cote tossed a complete game, striking out seven and allowing one earned run for the Rams (5-1) in their road win.

Bri Mercier led the way with a hit and three RBIs, while Hannah Casey drove in two more.

Jaysona Kennedy went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Kate Sullivan collected two hits.

Palmer 6, Easthampton 1 — Ashley Reardon doubled and scored on a throwing error for the Eagles (4-2) in the home loss.

Amanda Lambert also had a hit for Easthampton, which could only muster two against Palmer ace Nicole Handzel (14 strikeouts).

Caelin Mottor struck out one in a complete-game loss.

Longmeadow 9, Amherst 2 — Ally Faulstick pitched a complete game, but the Hurricanes (1-6) took the home loss.

Nadia Squitiero singled in Cassie Jeschke in the fifth and Sarah Grace Spurgin scored on a passed ball after lacing a triple in the sixth.

Cassie Long also had a triple.
