Duane Miller of Vermont victim of fatal fall in Williamsburg
WILLIAMSBURG — Officials have identified a man who died from injuries suffered in a fall while doing tree-trimming work on Main Street in Haydenville as Duane Miller, 58, whose last known address was Vermont.
According to a statement from the office of Northwestern District Attorney David Sullivan, Miller died sometime around 1:30 p.m. Monday after he fell from a tree. According to the DA’s office, Miller was the owner of Team Paint and Tree Service.
The accident occurred on the grounds of Schneider Plumbing and Heating at 131 Main St. Employees of the company would not comment on the accident Tuesday.
At the accident site Tuesday, a freshly trimmed pine tree could be seen directly behind the small office building with a partially severed bough still hanging from the top of the tree 40 to 50 feet above the ground. The Fire Department had tied the tree limb off at the base to keep it from falling.
“We responded, we did what we had to do, and we cleared the scene. That is really all that I can say,” Fire Chief Don Lawton said.
Earlier reports from a town official that CPR was administered to the victim were incorrect.
According to Lawton, a helicopter had initially been called to the scene but was quickly cancelled when paramedics indicated that the fall had been fatal.
Williamsburg Police as well as Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Northwestern district attorney’s office and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration are still investigating the accident.
