Truck driver hurt, I-91 exit closed in Whately rollover
WHATELY — A tractor-trailer carrying cooking flour rolled over a guardrail on Interstate 91 at Exit 24 in Whately early Monday, injuring the driver and closing the exit to traffic for several hours.
State Police Trooper Jason Yagodzinski from the Northampton barracks said the one-vehicle accident happened around 2:30 a.m. near the northbound exit lane as the truck was leaving the highway.
“The operator was extricated from the vehicle and transported to an area hospital with seeming non-life-threatening injuries,” Yagodzinski said.
The name of the driver was not available.
Police closed the exit ramp completely through much of the morning rush hour while the truck was removed from the scene. Drivers heading north on 91 were directed to Exit 22.
Yagodzinksi said fortunately, the contents of the vehicle remained in the truck.
By 9:30 a.m., one lane of Exit 24 northbound was open and police expected the road would be back to normal by 10:30 or 11 a.m.
Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
State troopers from the Shelburne Falls barracks also responded to the crash.
