An ancestor unveiled: Champion Dickinson of Hatfield gets a first look at a portrait of Caleb Cooley Dickinson

"I wouldn't know him!", exclaimed Champion Dickinson of N. Hatfield several times upon getting his first look at this oil painting of his great, great uncle, Caleb Cooley Dickinson, who founded Cooley Dickinson Hospital. The 1861 portrait was rediscovered recently after being stored away at the hospital for many years and differs markedly from the only other known likeness of him, a sketch drawn several years after his death from descriptions given by those who had known him. That framed 1889 sketch hangs in a hallway at CDH.
