Power outage affects much of Deerfield on Wednesday night
DEERFIELD — Nearly two-thirds of the households in Deerfield were without electricity at the peak of a power failure Wednesday night.
By 9:45 p.m., power was restored to all but two of the 1,763 homes in Deerfield that had lost power. Fourteen homes in Greenfield and six in Whately also lost power for at least an hour.
Western Massachusetts Electric Co. spokeswoman Theresa Gilbert said that a tree that fell on power lines on Route 116 around 7:30 p.m. caused much of the outage and a second, unidentified issue was responsible for the rest of the power loss. She said she did not know the details of the second outage or the exact location of the downed tree on Route 116.
She said crews were in Deerfield working to restore power at 10 p.m. and expected to restore power to the two remaining homes by 11 p.m.
