Around Westhampton: School roof nearly completed, Fire Department to get new grant-funded gear

School officials say work to replace the roof of Westhampton Elementary School is expected to be completed by the first day of school Sept. 2. “The work is progressing quite well,” said Principal Deane Bates. Independent Roofing Co. of Westfield is completing the project. “They’re replacing the insulations, boards and the roof membrane.” Also included in the project are renovations to two entrances at the school. “There is a slight redesign at the main entrance so snow will fall off the roof to the sides, instead of straight down,” Bates said.
